Key dates for e-invoicing in Italy

Italy is advancing toward a fully digital and compliant invoicing ecosystem. Here are the key milestones to stay ahead of.

Mandatory B2B e-invoicing

June 2014

Mandatory B2G e-invoicing introduced for central government entities.

E-reporting rollout

March 2015

B2G e-invoicing extended to all public administrations.

Royal Decree published

January 2019

Mandatory domestic B2B and B2C e-invoicing begins via the Sistema di Interscambio (SdI).

E-reporting rollout

July 2022

E-invoicing requirement extended to taxpayers under the flat-rate regime with annual revenues above €25,000.

Mandatory B2B e-invoicing

January 2024

Mandatory e-invoicing extended to all VAT-registered taxpayers, including remaining flat-rate taxpayers.
