Mandatory B2B e-invoicing

September 2021

Japan formally adopts the Peppol framework.

E-reporting rollout

May 2022

The Digital Agency begins operating as Japan's Peppol Authority.

Royal Decree published

October 2023

The Qualified Invoice System (QIS) comes into effect, requiring registered businesses to issue qualified invoices for input tax credit eligibility.

This mandate currently affects e-invoicing, not e-reporting.
